For the many tourists who rent villas in Tuscany for a short stay, your journey may includes Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano and other popular Tuscan cities. But here's another place that you can add to it.

Montepulciano was built on the ancient Etruscan town of Nocera Alfaterna, surrounded by a wall on a ridge sloping and narrow called Monte Poliziano limestone. With a long history as the matter of a tug of war between Florence and Siena, he developed a municipal law in 1561 and became a stronghold of Cristina de Lorena, widow of Ferdinand I in 1609, falling under the jurisdiction of the Grand Duchy.

For a longtime Castle Montepulciano had witnessed to the colorful history and one of the oldest reinforced centers in the region. You can learn all about the battles between the Sienese and the Florentines over the rule of the city, by visiting this building .

The vineyards of Montepulciano are the paradise for wine lovers who rent villas in Tuscany around the area specifically to engage in tours and tastings of famous grapes and wines from them. The city is home to not one but two famous wines: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and his counterpart from table wine, Rosso di Montepulciano.

The climate and geological feature are suitable for growing grapes for wine, most vineyards - with the best of them located in Caggiole, Sanguineto, Gracciano and Cervognano - are oriented east, with a soil composed of clay mixed with sand. The wines produced here are supposed to be almost always suitable for long aging periods.

The city is also a great site to explore on foot. The walls themselves are historic  "14th century ". Its charming main street runs for 1.5 km from Porta al Prato Piazza Grande at the top of the hill, which is said to be one of the most beautiful squares in the whole region. Attractions include the Duomo and the bell tower, both unfinished but elegantly beautiful interiors. The city also has some of the palaces and villas of the most interesting Renaissance Tuscany.
